Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the most commonly asked questions about Chiropractic are answered by Active and Advanced Chiropractic:

How much does an adjustment cost?
We charge $80 per adjustment, however, we are able to make your care much more affordable by creating care plans based on the adjustments you will need to change your spine and improve the function of your nervous system. Chiropractic is, in our opinion, best utilized with regular adjustments, similar to exercise…one work out does not get you in shape, and typically neither does one adjustment. Based on your evaluation findings, we will give you our best recommendation for your care. The frequency of your adjustments is determined by the severity and number of subluxations in your spine.

Do you take private insurance?
No we do not handle insurance directly. Some of our patients have limited to full coverage and we will do our best to assist you. Many of our patients do not have insurance that contributes to Chiropractic care. You will find our rates are extremely affordable for you to receive the recommended care plan our Doctors create for you regardless of insurance.

Do you take Medisave?
Chiropractic at this time in Singapore is not under the government Medisave program.

Will you adjust me on the first visit?
We usually don't and here is why. Your health is our main priority. We would never risk your health without thoroughly evaluating the results from your first visit in our office. Your first visit we will collect all of your information along with any necessary scans and X-ray's. We will then schedule a follow up visit in the next day or two to review the results of your evaluation, answer any new questions, and give you your first adjustment in our office!

What adjusting technique do you use?
Our work is based on a technique called diversified, which focuses on correcting shifts in your spinal column. We use a combination of drop tables, adjusting instruments, and traditional manual adjustments with that "pop" many people associate with Chiropractic. Part of our initial evaluation is to learn any concerns you may have about adjustment's, and address them so that we can find the most comfortable and effective way for you to get adjusted.

Do you adjust kids? Is it done the same way as adults?
YES! We highly encourage the checking of children from newborn to adulthood. All ages are susceptible to subluxations. Adjustment techniques are going to be much gentler than the average adult.

Once you start going to the Chiropractor, do you have to go forever?
No, there is no lifetime contract. Practice Members leave care when they like. No, chiropractic is not addictive, unless you consider a desire for better health to be unhealthy. Yes, you should have Chiropractic care for as long as you wish to function on an optimal basis, physically, mentally and socially, which to most people is a lifetime affair. Funny, nobody ever asks the dentist this question.

How many times do I need to be seen?
This depends on the severity of your subluxations, and the level of degenerative (arthritic) changes present. After your initial evaluation we will know the answer to this, and we will go over this with you when you return to go over the results of your first visit.

I like my neck popped – What can you do for me?
We are highly skilled in performing traditional adjustment once we have determined those types of adjustments are safe for you.

Do you take X-ray's?
Yes, we prefer to know exactly what is happening with the structure of your spine before we give you an adjustment.

"I tried Chiropractic, and it didn't work."

There are many different "kinds" of chiropractors and many techniques. One technique may work on one person and not on another. What is great about so many techniques is that you can always try another if one is not working for you!

Another truth is that there are bad people in every field. If you went to a bad dentist, you would look for another one rather than waiting for your teeth to fall out. If your plumber couldn't fix a broken pipe in your house, are you going to let your house flood? No! So, if you have been to a bad chiropractor, find yourself a better one. (P.S.: In cases where "Chiropractic didn't work," I find that 9 out 10 times, the Chiropractor wasn't even serious enough about Chiropractic and your well-being to take X-ray's and provide a detailed plan of care for you.)

How long does an evaluation take?
An evaluation in our office takes 30-45 minutes. Typically filling out new Practice Member paperwork adds the most time to your initial visit. Please download or print your new Practice Member paperwork from our website to expedite your visit. We pride ourselves on being an extremely punctual office so please arrive to your appointment 5 minutes early…I promise you this is not your typical doctors office experience!

When will I feel better?
Everyone is different. We wish we could somehow predict how fast your body will heal, but there are several factors involved. Our focus is to remove any blockages to your body's nerve supply caused by spinal shifts called subluxations. All cellular repairs are controlled and coordinated by your central nerve system. Therefore, our goal is to maximize expression of life through the adjustment. How quickly this translates into you feeling better is different in each person based on things like degenerative changes, your exercise habits, stress levels, diet, and the number of medications you take, just to name a few variables

I do not like my neck popped – What can you do for me?
We utilize drop tables and adjusting instruments that are gentle and effective – no popping necessary!

Is Chiropractic dangerous?
Chiropractic is vastly safer than any drug or medical procedure. Chiropractic malpractice premiums are miniscule compared to those paid by M.D.'s. When a chiropractor makes a mistake, nothing (as opposed to a good result) happens, or one might end up a little sore. Compare this to these frightening statistics for the other team. It has been estimated that over 100,000 people die each year in the USA from prescription drugs taken in the controlled medical environment, the hospital. About 2 million hospital patients a year (between 5 to 10% of the hospital population) acquire a nosocomial (from the hospital) infection, from which there are between 100,000 and 300,000 deaths. It has been estimated that there are between 3 million and 6.25 million unnecessary surgeries annually, resulting in between 40,000 and 83,000 unnecessary deaths. Prescription errors are skyrocketing.

How old or young should somebody be to receive care?
Our oldest client is 85 years old, and some weeks we adjust newborns as well. 20% of our practice is composed of children. This is because many of our Practice Members want their children to reach their full potential, and 100% nerve supply is an important part of that equation.
